27 May A part of Parliament in Kabul
My father is in Kabul, again. He has a habit of making Afghanistan his home for months on end. At first, it was the military that sent him. Now, Dad goes back to help the people. As much as I oppose the war (and have since it started, it's not a small factor in why I switched political parties) I do respect the work my dad and others do to make the life of Afghans better. Dad, knowing my love of the buildings on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, sent this dispatch.
Take a look at the note and photos he sent from the old city today; history in the making:
"Taken today at Turqouise Mountain Foundation, an NGO re-training Afghans in traditional skills. The panel and columns have been commissioned by Parliament and are destined to find a place on the Hill. The Persian script in the centre of the panel says "Canada Supports Afghanistan." All of this is hand carved; amazing!"
