04 May Nissan HyperCube online influence contest

Why would an environmentalist want to win a car?  Well, in Kevin Grandia‘s case, it’s because his current car is a piece of crap; it’s arguably hurting the environment and he needs a new car to get to the bus.  The Nissan Canada HyperCube folks have found 500 online influencers to compete in a clever campaign designed to give away 50 of these tech-friendly vehicles.  Regularly, in my twitter-stream, folks like Kris Krug, TinkU Gallery’s Amrita Chandra and the amazing Rannie Turingan (aka:  Photojunkie) are all vying for cars.

Why Kevin?

So again, why would I choose Kevin Grandia?  I think having the guy who runs the deSmogBlog in a contest to win a car is a little bit like environmentalists and animal rights activists buying up the chance to shoot a bear.  It’s a little bit counter-intuitive, a little “on-its-head,” and I like it.  Here is one of Kevin’s videos:

Nothing in life is free.  I’ve been wanting to have someone look at my Google analytics for a while and he offered that service (and some SEO strategy) in exchange for a daily vote.  Fair deal I say.
