12 Aug NDP Convention Colour Commentary

sticky top21 NDP Convention Colour Commentary

I’ll be giving you one delegate’s perspective. Direct from the floor of convention. Think of me as your online colour commentator. I’m going to provide coverage of as much behind-the-scenes action and atmosphere of the Federal NDP Convention as I can. I’ll keep my focus primarily on communications tactics, media coverage, emerging media integration, training sessions and major speeches at convention.

Plenty of other New Democrats Online will be covering the policy debates, panels, prioritization and constitutional ups and downs. How will you find them?

Thousands of New Democrats across Canada will be participating online – some watching via CPAC, others tuned into the NDP’s own live web stream and many more contributing to online discussion via Twitter, Facebook and blogs. These voices are important and it’s why a group of dedicated New Democrats online created DemocratsLive.ca. You can find live bloggers, photos, videos or even vote on your favorite tweets as the weekend moves forward.

Here’s a bit more about the MediaStyle NDP Federal Convention coverage plans and how I’ll be contributing to the conversation online and in Halifax:

    Hey Ian,

    Two things:

First, I am interested in the resolution process. The eNDProhibition resolution got the approval of 9 riding associations (more than any other resolution) but has been prioritized at #20 (only the top 5 get voted on). How does something superficial like a resolution to change the party name take priority over debating the NDP supporting the end to the war on drugs?

Furthermore, Dana Larsen, former candidate and the leader of eNDProhibition (an NDP group dedicated to drug law reform) has been outright banned from the NDP Convention by National Director Brad Lavigne. Dana provided assistance with travel costs and lodging. Using this as an excuse, Dana was banned by National Director Brad Lavigne, who accused Dana of vote buying.

This doesn’t sound like the NDP. Have you heard anything?

    Hi Pearce,

http://devinjohnston.ca/ will be tracking the resolutions/debate and policy stuff.

I’ve seen Dana’s updates on Facebook, the Babble forum and Marc’s piece.

I’m concerned about the situation on a few levels, but I need more information. Will post my thoughts later this weekend as I learn more.

    Ian.

    Hey Ian,

Thanks for the reply. I’m following devin’s site now!

    Ian –

The party made the right call. Vote buying is wrong in elections, and conventions.

But it’s the NDP’s political opponents who are trying desperately to make a big deal of this.

Take Pearce for example. This is the same guy who is swooning over Ignatieff in the comments section of this blog: http://bcinto.blogspot.com/2009/01/video-michael-ignatieff-speaks-to.html

Don’t you think Liberals’ time would be better spent harassing their leader to stand up to Harper for once?
