Rex. I love both Canada, a nation whom I left in 1965, which I became a citizen of the United States in 1970. We are united in so many ways, through culture, finances and so many more. I emmigrated to the USA in 1965. As a single woman, raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, my future for financial security was limited. I went to Los Angeles, and immediately got hired for twice the income than I was in Canada. When I worked for Manitoba Telephone Co.for three years, I asked why a new hire was paid more than twice what I had was being paid after three years of employment, the responce was: " He will be the sole provider of his family" . Excuse me, my mom was the sole provider of two children in 1959 and no one made my father pay child support. The USA has always been the bashing grownd for the world. I respect and love Canada, however, if it hadn't been for the stances that we have taken, would Canada be what they are today.. I remember when the Vietnam war was going on, a friend of mine in Winnipeg protested, got arrested for civil disobedience. I protested in Los Angeles, and Chicogo with Hayden,we were allowed to protest against what we felt was wrong. I feel that the USA has been given a bad wrap. My heart and soul is still Canadian, but until you have experienced the other side, who are you to critisized. God bless both of us.

I remember 20 years ago Murphy doing a screed against an indoor smoking ban. He's just a life-long libertarian blowhard and no, it isn't disagreeing with "the left" that "the left" hates so much, it's idionts spouting bullshit, being wrong, using bombast in lieu of facts and reason. That's Murphy's stock-in-trade, and that's why he's an ass. Now if the Globe gets rid of the remaining fools like Margaret Wente it might be worth buying again.

While I love Rex - really bright guy - great command of language and whats really going on - but for some reason over the last couple of years his op-ed was getting the tone and feel of supporting nut bar right wing crap with climate change being the corner stone> I have been schocked at his growing blatant partisan toward right wing nonsense, including at times painting Harper in a good light - I now know that I wasn't the only person sharing this growing concern and stopped reading Rex 1 year ago when he hit obvious in his politics and he lost all his sense of amazing humour. My reading Rex was a ritual on Saturdays with my lunch - I miss his humour - I now put him in the bin of the idiots unfortunately like Ben Stein and Dennis Miller. For him to go to National Post, which is in palliative care only speaks to his current dementia ....he also needs to be taken off the CBC ...I for one will miss his old self - sorry Rex thats how I see it ...

Rex,

The left wing media are overpopulated. I felt that The Globe and Mail was a left-leaning paper, not nearly as strident in that regard as the Toronto Star, but nevertheless part of the main stream of left-wing ideologues. Glad that the National Post has picked you up. That is their win and the Globe and Mail's loss.

Rex hopped over the line of rationality a while ago. It's been a gradual progression from independent thinker to just plain crack-pot. It's charming in it's own messed up way.

The problem with Rex's screeds in the Globe on climate change was that he didn't really check his facts very well. He often cited people as climate scientists who were in fact economists or statisticians. He also based much of his argument on old and discredited data. If this is the quality of his journalism then the Post is a perfect fit.

Rex was the only reason I bought the Saturday G&M. I agree with most posts stating that he attacked scientific methodology rather than the conclusions drawn from that flawed methodology. Unfortunately for the G&M, I've found the complexity decreased and subject matter simplified over the past two years. It reminds me more and more of the electronic, watered-down media that the younger generation is growing up on.

Anyway, a new Post reader has been born.

Rex is fantasticly poor at understanding science, in seeming inverse proportion to his vocabulary. He is the most eloquent expresser of ignorance I have ever heard.
