Ian Capstick, owner of MediaStyle, has over a decade of professional political and communications experience. Ian has worked for cabinet ministers and opposition members in the House of Commons, including some of Canada's most colourful and influential political minds - from both the New Democrats and Liberals
Ian is passionate about creating social change through communications. An experienced media coach, political tactician and engaging speaker, Ian has appeared as a political commentator with CJAD 800 radio in Montreal, The Hill Times, Embassy Magazine and is a regular speaker at the national and regional conferences of the Canadian University Press. Ian coordinated parliamentary training for MPs and staff of the New Democratic Party of Canada for three years, in addition to his role as media liaison and party spokesperson - having been quoted widely for the New Democrats in Canada's media.

Ian developed his passion for public relations while still in high school in Edmonton where he was a youth spokesperson for several Edmonton Public School Board initiatives. At that time Ian also co-founded Meta Media Inc. with friend and business partner Jeff K. Ward - Jeff is now an award winning web content creator based in Victoria, British Columbia. Meta Media capitalized on young energy and was engaged by leading technology and web startups in Alberta.
Ian studied mass communications and media theory at the University of Ottawa. He worked as a journalist, editor and went on to be elected Managing Editor of the university's English-language newspaper, the Fulcrum. He started his political career working for Liberal cabinet ministers, including former Heritage Minister Sheila Copps. Ian spent the last half of his time on Parliament hill serving as a press secretary to the New Democratic caucus and its Leader, Jack Layton. In addition to being a proud and dedicated New Democrat, Ian is a supporter of community gardening; local food and agriculture; advocate for accessible media; lesbian and gay rights; and increased corporate accountability.
