Shawn Dearn :: Communicator, strategist & communications trainer

Born and raised in Montreal, Shawn has more than a decade of award-winning domestic and international communications and broadcasting experience. Starting his career in news at KBS Radio in Trail, BC, Shawn worked on Parliament Hill as Bureau Chief for radio stations CFRB 1010 & CJAD 800; he served a term as the elected President of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery. He also served as general manager of a private, national radio network in Bosnia and Herzegovina and consulted on the restructuring and programming of that country’s national public radio broadcaster; and trained public servants in communications and media relations as a member of the OSCE Mission.

Since 2001, Shawn has managed media relations or strategic communications with the Government of Canada and is co-owner of MediaStyle, with his husband, Ian Capstick. Follow Shawn on Twitter.

Jeff Ward :: President; Animiliki Inc. :: web applications & design

Jeff Ward is a Canadian web creative with international experience and a proven record of building online communities. His two most recent creations, YikeSite! and Apricado Music operate with elegant simplicity. While working at educational multimedia companies in Canada and the United States Jeff earned a strong reputation for effective project management. He excelled at coordinating the efforts of large multi-site production teams to develop web-based learning materials. In 2003, Jeff founded Animikii Inc., a web-services company building web-applications and designs for clients. In 2007, Jeff was interviewed on the popular Web 2.0 Show for his first publicly launched product, YikeSite.

• YikeSite: Launched in [early/late] 2007 and has seen hundreds of accounts created by users looking for an easy-to-use website creation tool.
• In 2008, Jeff led the creation of Apricado Music. An independent musician himself, Jeff knows how hard it can be to sell music online. His team designed and built a service for independent musicians to sell their music online simply, with minimal costs for a professional look.

Matthew Kayahara :: food writer, editor, translator

Matthew is a food writer, editor and professional translator. He has a passion for words and knowledge with a flair for literary translation. Matthew works with MediaStyle as an editor and collaborator on culinary and special events. A talented self-taught cook, he lives with his husband in Guelph, Ontario and writes the food blog You can’t make everything from scratch. Matt obtained his Masters in Translation from the University of Ottawa.

Leah McCreight :: Mcr8 Design :: illustrator & graphic designer

Leah is an illustrator living in Toronto and Guelph, Ontario. She earned her degree in fine art from Georgian College/Thompson River University in 2005. Since then she has been creating her signature colourful drawings and paintings. Leah recently decided to further her education and is now working towards a degree in graphic design in Toronto. Some of her more popular works have been used to create handcrafted stationary and gifts; Leah’s work can be found for sale at Etsy.
